My personal experience with the Makita BO4900V ½ Sheet Sander was great, I have not had a chance to use it much, but even with low grit paper, it is still so strong! Even the strongest of woods can easily be sanded down using this sander. It also doesn’t use as much paper as many comparable sanders.

Finishing Sander

Variable Speed

This has become a fairly standard feature within modern sanders, however – the large range of OPM’s that this tool operates at is astounding, for a slow, accurate sanding experience you can simply spin the dial down to 4,000 OPM, but for the toughest of work you can take it all the way up to 10,000 OPM!

Dust Collection System:

This particular sander collects the dust through the pad, to keep everything clean. What I really like about this is the fact that it can easily be connected to a vacuum hose, this will increase the amount of dust the sander will collect by a large margin. Without a vacuum hose, the sander will still collect a small amount of dust.

Standard Paper Sizes:

Another great feature about this sander is the fact that you aren’t stuck buying the manufacturer’s own brand paper, which is often more expensive than other brands, this sander uses a standard hook and loop system to connect and secure the paper, which is also common with modern sanders. The sanding paper that is included with the purchase of the tool isn’t the best, but still worth using. There is much better quality sandpaper available, which will fit this tool due to it using standard sizes.

Contoured Grip:

The grip on this tool is wonderful. You can easily use this sander for hours without aching. It is one of the most comfortable, ergonomic grips I have ever used. The rubber helps minimize vibration, which helps fight off muscle fatigue.

Overall Build Quality:

The overall feel of this premium sander is simply sublime. The grip is a pleasure to use, and even after extended use, the sander was still quiet, smooth, and easy to use. It also feels extremely sturdy, which definitely helps – many screws within cheaper sanders slowly ‘rattle’ out of place over time; but I didn’t notice this while using the Makita. The sander also doesn’t jump around, at all, when it encounters a curved surface, such as a table-top. Many other sanders jump around, and this affects the overall finish.

Conclusion

Overall, this sheet sander is wonderful. It is rated for industrial use. Although for home use it is a bit expensive, nevertheless it is the best sander out there at its price point. Unfortunately, the punch plate is not included, which is a shame but can be easily found for cheap. But I’d recommend buying the punch plate at the same time as purchasing the sander, this way, you can use it straight away. The low amount of noise created by this sander is phenomenal. I couldn’t believe it was running at 10,000 Orbits Per Minute when I was running it, compared to other sanders, the lack of noise is bliss.
