The Sun Joe SWJ701E is an excellent chainsaw for light work at its price point, and this was the main reason I purchased it. I wasn’t expecting much. However, the Sun Joe SWJ701E performs well, even when put up against more premium chainsaws.
I mainly used it for limbing a large number of trees, and I couldn’t believe how easily this cheap chainsaw blasted through the limbs, while I would not recommend it for precise, hobby work – it’s a great choice for limbing and pruning. It can also be effortlessly used for slicing through wood for fires.

Motor
One important thing to note is that this chainsaw is not petrol-powered; instead, it is powered by electricity. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, you will need a constant power connection. However, the large 14-Amp motor provides an abundance of power for even the most strenuous of tasks. However, be warned – when using the chainsaw for an extended period, don’t apply too much pressure as this will cause the motor to heat up significantly – and possibly burn out. Overall, the 14 Amp’s this motor provides more than enough to saw through many trees effortlessly. This chainsaw will easily pay for itself after an hour’s work.
Design
The overall design of this tool is excellent; it features an attractive lime green chassis, along with the standard plain metal blade. The ergonomics of this tool are also of excellent quality, it is a pleasure to use, and the handle is in the perfect position to allow the user to use this tool for hours without needing a break. The filler caps are placed in a good place, allowing them not to get in the way, yet still, be reasonably accessible. They are also a good, large shape – meaning you can unscrew the caps while wearing gloves.
It also features a full-size 18-inch bar and chain, which is a truly fantastic addition at this price point, this allows for cutting of even the largest pieces of wood.
Hand Guard
The Sun Joe SWJ701E features a large hand guard to protect you from falling pieces of wood, this is a great safety addition – not much to say about this, but it is rather solid and feels durable.

The self-lubricating chain works extremely well. The saw blade is also of extremely high quality, with no flex and is as capable as many petrol-powered chainsaws. If you are looking for a cheap and cheerful chainsaw for some light work around the house, I cannot recommend this tool enough. It will glide through trees effortlessly, even trees as large as eight inches.
Honestly, this chainsaw is as capable as many other, much higher priced, premium alternatives. While it may not be suitable for forestry, due to the power requirements, it is excellent for home and business use and will easily conquer any tasks you throw at it. However, don’t expect too much – for professional work, you will be disappointed.
